Start with Isaiah

Readings for July 6th

I think it is interesting that Ambrose sent Augustine to Isaiah first.  This was the beginning point for him.  I don’t think any pastor today would think to have a student start there but perhaps we have gotten much to “New Testament” centric.  Without the Old Testament we lack the perspective to understand Jesus.  God’s actions throughout time certainly lead to Christ but like a relationship where you never hear about a person’s past, what made them who they are, who influenced them, how they came to believe what they do know, we cannot engage the New Testament without walking the Exodus, living the Exile and awaiting the Messiah with the people of the Old Testament.
