Readings for July 5th

Opening the ark

God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him!  As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God!  But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy!  Psalm 68:1-3

I couldn’t help but picture the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark when the psalmist talked about melting like wax before God.  Here Dietrich discovers what it means to be in the presence of God without the benefit of God’s invitation.  The results of being before God couldn’t be more diametrically opposed, one melts and another has joy.  The righteous exult-righteous because they have been chosen and are in covenant.  Righteous for us because the right-ness, the ultimate right of Jesus Christ is given to us as a gift from Jesus Christ.  Jesus lived right, exactly as His Father wanted Him to and by taking the right-ness into an innocent death broke the curse of our wrong-ness.  I believe that Jesus made a difference for me and all people when He did that, do you?  In the presence of God I am not scattered or forced to flee or do I melt or perish, instead I exult and rejoice, I have great joy!
