Readings for June 2nd

“Bread is made for laughter, and wine gladdens life, and money answers everything.”  Ecclesiastes 10:19

This verse just surprised me.  Of course you never just get out the scissors and clip a verse from the rest of the Bible but eat, laugh, drink, smile has been hijacked by the world.  If we think that it isn’t true because that’s the way the world lives then I think we didn’t sit in on the parties that Jesus attended.  Drinkers, dregs and prostitutes attended and the only parties that sounded lifeless were the ones without them.  Some would make Jesus into teetotaler but that would be putting Jesus into a puritanical, pietistic box in which He didn’t live.  Wine was very much a part of the culture as was parties and laughter.  I just hope that I would be partying on the inside, enjoying His stories, laughing and eating instead of one of the accusers at the windows whispering to my friends, “He eats with sinners!”

Be thankful to God, have fun and recognize the true Giver and be there for those who need you where they are.

That’s only half of it, what on earth is “money answers everything?!”
