Readings for the Tuesday after Pentecost

Understand O dullest of people! Fools when will you be wise? He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see? He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke? He who teaches man knowledge – the Lord – knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath. Psalm 94:8-11

Our thoughts, a breath? Seem heavy to me, or significant, or impossible to resolve – a breath God says, perspective for those stuck. Our own navel gazing can be selfishness if we forget about the one who formed the eye.

Let the humble not bear witness to himself but leave someone else to witness about him. -Clement of Rome

Perhaps we are too busy trying to take credit for our ‘good deeds’ to let the best witness, the witness of those we’ve served, do the talking.
