Readings for Friday Easter 5

Luke 13:18-19  “What is the kingdom of God like?  It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.”

The kingdom of God is like a tiny yellow seed.  Certainly not just in the respect, it’s funny how people take the seed and make jewelry of it and focus on the seed.  What’s amazing is how huge it becomes!  I guess no one would be carrying around a huge tree but that would be more to Jesus’ point.  That is the picture of God’s Kingdom small, insignificant, if dropped in dirt, forgotten.  The Lord’s Prayer tells us that God’s kingdom comes when His will is done.  Luther reminds us that God’s kingdom comes through us when we pray, it comes when we recognize God as the giver of daily bread, it comes when we forgive and are forgiven.  Now excuse me while I market the new mustard tree line of jewelry.
