Readings for Wednesday Easter 5

‘he will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful” … “I came to cast fire on the earth” … “Do you think I have come to give peace on earth?  No, I tell you, but rather division.”  Luke 12

Doesn’t sound like Jesus, at least not the cuddly Jesus typically described.  So what now? Start a militia, start hating on people because of these kind of words?  Not if you actually read the Bible instead of removing Jesus’ word from their context.  This incredibly explicit language is directed at the manager who should have known better.  The ones left with the truth for the good of others but instead wasted their lives beating on people around them and getting drunk.  Sure people are divided by the message of Jesus but those who have the message of Jesus are the ones that Jesus holds responsible.  So what would Jesus look like today, instead of carrying a sword?  This picture is for all those that Jesus is expecting to be faithful…
