Readings for Tuesday – Easter 2

Rebuke (Luke 4:35,39)

Jesus rebuked the demon and the fever and later rebukes the wind and the waves.  Jesus didn’t blame the demoniac or Peter’s mother in law, he rebuked the marks of sin that they carried.  Would we be open to that kind of rebuke?  The pharisees weren’t, Jesus rebuked their hypocrisy and their false teachings but they weren’t willing to listen, they took it personally, they rejected Jesus.  Would Jesus rebuke be unwelcome because we would take it personally?  Of course Jesus doesn’t just rebuke sin, not to the unrepentant.  Demons are under His command and sickness flees at His word but forgiveness is never forced.
