Readings for February 8th

Doesn’t it make a difference when you know the person who is making the food.  I’ve always thought the soup, the sandwich, the meal has a different taste when it is made by someone you know.  Even my coffee tastes better.  You could call the secret ingredient love but I think the fourth petition points us in the right direction.  When you know who the one is that is giving you good things you enjoy them more.  You recognize the gift of it, you taste the blessing of it, there is a change in the reception of it that changes the experience.  God is the giver of all good things, realizing that is the beginning, thanking God is a big part of it, but just as important is sharing, enjoying and savoring His blessings!

“He [God] wishes that we pray for theses goods in order that we may recognize that we receive them from His hand and may feel His fatherly goodness toward us in them [Psalm 104:28, 145:16].”  Large Catechism III
