Readings for February 3rd

Jesus gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.  Titus 2:14

My previous post reflects the struggle I have as preacher.  Good works aren’t motivated by fear and they don’t just happen naturally because most people don’t want to try something new and go outside their comfort zone.  We don’t naturally seek out ways to serve our neighbors around us.  We enjoy the comfort that God’s Word gives, we like the forgiveness for our sins, we want the peace and the fellowship with like-minded people that church gives but don’t want to be bothered with the hard work of living out a life of service to our neighbor.

  1. Thanks for the encouragement.

  2. Your comments all the more prove the point that God “saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness [before or after conversion], but according to His own mercy…”
