Readings for January 23rd

Psalm 139

1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
This post says so much about me as a sinner and saint at the same time (as Luther put it).  For could to know me, my sitting down, sleeping and rising makes me uncomfortably aware of my sin.  God is not a person you close outside the door, He’s right here, now.  God knows all my secret sins, faults, shortcomings but He also forgets them when the perfect life of His Son Jesus covers them.  Although I am a broken and sinful person, dead in my sin, I can still marvel at the workmanship of my human body, if I can look past the ravages of sin I see an amazing designer who created a body for remarkable accomplishments.  Every time a baby is born, a scientist uncovers something new about our workmanship, or I try something new that I’ve never thought I could do I understand “fearfully and wonderfully made” a little better.
